UK timber imports decline while prices stay stable in Q1.

    Wood Raw materials market
Timber imports in Q1 were about 150,000m³ lower than in Q1 2023, with a 6.2% decrease, primarily due to a drop in March.

While January and February import volumes stayed steady, nearly all timber product types saw lower volumes in March, except for hardwood plywood.

Import prices for softwood, hardwood, and plywood have largely stabilized recently, approaching pre-Covid and pre-Brexit levels.

Throughout 2023, average monthly prices for imported softwood and hardwood remained stable, although plywood prices were more volatile.

At the start of 2024, prices for hardwood and softwood plywood have significantly stabilized.

The recent months have shown greater price stability for many timber and panel products, indicating a more balanced market environment.
