Australia's Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry is set to distribute $70 million in federal grants to expand the country’s plantation estates.

An initial amount of $3.2 million will be used to create seven new plantation forests in New South Wales, Tasmania, and Queensland.

The program aims to supply timber for construction needs, reducing the reliance on products from other countries.

Due to the impact of the 2019–20 Black Summer bushfires, where 55,000 hectares of trees were burned, efforts have salvaged 42% of the affected resources.
