BUSINESS & TRADE Textile
A survey among Chinese 1,030 farmers in 10 provinces and cities revealed that in the first half of September, cotton entered the late stage of cotton harvesting, and picking work began.

The survey undertaken by the China Cotton Association noted that a small number of cotton farmers have started picking, while only sporadic purchases are being made.

The survey also informed that the purchase price is between Yuan 8 and 8.4 per kg, which is 8.8 percent above last season’s opening price.

Cotton picking progress was 33 percent, the same as in the comparable period of 2022, while sales progress was 4.3 percent, 2.6 percent up year on year.

Cotton in the Yangtze River Basin is growing well this year, and the picking progress is slower than in the same period last year.

As of September 15, the cotton picking progress in the Yangtze River Basin was 23.8 percent, 11.3 percent slower than the same period last year, while sales progress was 5 percent, 2.8 percent faster than a year ago period.

“Only a small amount of cotton in the basin was sold in Hubei Province, and the average sales price was Yuan 8.1 per kg, an increase of 12.7 percent year on year,” the survey noted.

The survey further informed that the weather in the Yellow River Basin was good in the first half of September, which was conducive to cotton picking.

As of September 15, the cotton picking progress in the Yellow River Basin was 40.6 percent, 8.3 percent higher than the same period last year, while sales progress was 4 percent, 2.7 percent faster year on year.

The average sales price was Yuan 8.4 per kg, an increase of 6.2 percent from a year ago period, with cotton also being sold at the highest price of Yuan 8.7 per kg.
