Relations between Australia and China began to improve after a sudden halt to trade due to the aggressive policies of the previous Australian government.
Until 2021, Australia had served as China’s 2nd-biggest source of imported coal, and an important supplier of timber, lobster, and wine.
After two and half years of no trade, in February, the coal trade between Australia and China recovered fully as exports reached 207,236 tons.
Timber imports to China from Australia also showed signs of recovery; in January, China imported 502 tonnes of timber-related products with another 449 tons in February, making the 2-month total 1,000 tons.
