Global exports of textiles and clothing to the United States in December depicted mixed trends with some countries posting phenomenal gains while the major exporters lost substantial market share according to the US Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel.
As per statistics released textile and apparel exports to the United States in December 2022 was 6.15 billion square meter equivalent. It was a massive decline of 31.6 percent when compared with the exports made in December 2021. Of this, the textile exports equaled 4.24 billion square meter equivalent which was 34.7 percent lower than last year. The export of apparel went down by 13.1 percent when compared with November 2022 and by 23.8 percent when compared with December 2022.

During the 12 months of 2022, the total exports of textiles and apparel were 105.9 billion square meter equivalent which was 12.3 percent higher than in 2021. Textile exports to the US increased by 15.3 percent to 78.8 billion and that of apparel by 5.5 percent to 31.1 billion square meter equivalent.
China still remains the largest exporter of textiles and apparel to the United States with exports of 2.2 billion square meter equivalent. The major gainer of 2022 is appended below.
